State of the Union

The students recently delivered their own "State of the Union" addresses to the classes. Included were world topics, country issues and state issues...along with ways to improve Oxford. It was great. We will be watching as Obama makes his own speech tonight!
We are really enjoying our Mindstorm. So many aspects of robotics to explore!! We have formed assignments that will be rotated daily. Each child will have a turn as Captain, 1st Assistant, 2nd Assistant and then "Helpers" daily. This supports critical thinking and collaborating to improve the robot.

what a week!! FUN!

This week is Jan. 18-22 and the 5th and 6th graders have read about the fertile valley, Mesopotamia, and explored an in-depth knowledge of Food Chains and Webs..last week we had a guest from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science come to school and demonstrate endangered species in Mississippi. Andrea brought an alligator named Mr. Peeebody and 2 Razorback turtles. We learned a lot from them and from her. This week Mrs. Brown and the 5th and 6th grade dissected frogs in the science lab. We dove right in and thanked our frogs for giving their lives so we could learn about organs, systems, and our own bodies...also, adaptation skills, and coloration. Finally, to top off a great week we began yesterday exploring our LEGO MINDSTORM...wow! We have the starter set going today and plan on building the Gator-bot next week. Our class will enjoy a pizza party together on Tuesday, Jan. 26 after the b-ball game against Marshall Academy...Go EAGLES!

Mrs. Brown...5th and 6th science, lang. arts, and reading teacher
